Albert Baird Cummins papers, 1891-1926.

This collection includes correspondence (bulk 1901-1908 and 1902-1926); speeches; articles; campaign and election records; miscellaneous documents; ephemera; and newspaper clippings. Ten scrapbook volumes compiled and indexed by Albert Cummins's daughter, Anna Cummins Rawson, document his political career from 1898-1926 with newspaper clippings, political cartoons, texts of speeches, articles written by Cummins, ephemera and correspondence. The collection also includes a manuscript music score by Mose P. Arnheim, "March: Very Respectfully Dedicated to Hon. Albert B. Cummins, Governor of Iowa and Commander in Chief Iowa National Guard"; the February 29, 1924 issue of the newspaper, The Iowa Fiery Cross, a Ku Klux Klan publication; and Program for Their Majesties The King and Queen of the Belgians and His Royal Highness the Duke of Brabant" (Washington, D.C. October 27, 1919).

Albert Baird Cummins was a progressive Republican from Des Moines who served Iowa as state representative (1888-1890), governor (1902-1908) and United States senator (1908-1926). Prior to entering politics Cummins practiced law and gained national visibility for his successful representation of the Iowa Farmers' Protective Association in their case against the Washburn & Moen barbed wire trust.
